Change camera type (Perspective vs Orthographic)

Overview

CADchat supports two camera types for viewing 3D models: Perspective (realistic depth) and Orthographic (no depth distortion, useful for engineering review). You can change this in Space Settings.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon in the space header.
  2. Click Space Settings.
  3. Click the Point of View tab.
  4. Under Camera Type, select Perspective or Orthographic.
  5. The change applies immediately.

Additional details

  • Perspective view makes objects further away appear smaller, matching natural human vision.
  • Orthographic view shows all parallel lines as parallel — useful when comparing dimensions or reviewing technical drawings.
  • Your camera type setting applies to your view only and does not affect other collaborators.
  • The User Point of View toggle on the same tab controls whether your camera position carries over when you switch between 3D files in the same space.

Troubleshooting

  • If the view does not change after selecting a camera type, try clicking into the 3D canvas and scrolling once to refresh the renderer.
