Work with DXF and DWG layers

Overview

DXF and DWG files uploaded to the Documents tab include layer information from the original CAD drawing. You can show or hide individual layers to focus on specific parts of the drawing.

Steps

  1. Open a space and click the Documents tab.
  2. Upload a DXF or DWG file, or click an existing one in the Files panel.
  3. In the Files panel, look for the Contains layers tag on the file entry.
  4. Click the Layers button next to the file to open the Document Details panel on the right.
  5. In the Document Details panel, you will see a list of all layers in the drawing, each with a colored dot and a visibility eye icon.
  6. Click the eye icon next to any layer to toggle it on or off.
  7. The drawing updates immediately to reflect which layers are visible.

Additional details

  • Layer colors in the panel match the colors used in the original DXF or DWG file.
  • Hiding a layer is non-destructive — it only affects your view and does not modify the file.
  • Layer visibility settings are not synced to other collaborators — each person controls their own view.

Troubleshooting

  • If the Layers button is not visible, the file may have uploaded as a flat image rather than a layered DXF or DWG. Try re-uploading the file.
  • If the drawing looks blank after toggling layers, you may have hidden all layers. Toggle them back on in the Document Details panel.
