Chat in a space
Overview
Every space has a persistent chat panel on the right side. Chat lets you send messages, share files, and @mention collaborators without leaving the space.
Steps
- In any space, click the Chat button in the top right of the space header.
- The Chat panel slides open on the right side.
- Click in the message composer at the bottom and type your message.
- Use the formatting toolbar above the composer to apply Bold, Italic, Underline, strikethrough, text alignment, bullet lists, numbered lists, or links.
- Click the image upload icon to attach an image.
- Click the emoji icon to insert an emoji.
- Type @ followed by a name to mention a collaborator.
- Press Enter or click the send arrow to send.
Additional details
- Chat is persistent — messages stay in the space and can be read by any space member at any time.
- Chat is the same regardless of which tab you are on (3D Canvas, Documents, Whiteboard, etc.).
- Messages can include inline images as attachments.
- Chat is separate from Threads. Chat is for general conversation; Threads are anchored to specific locations on models or documents.
Troubleshooting
- If Chat does not open when you click the button, click it once more — it toggles open and closed.
- If you cannot see older messages, scroll up in the chat history.
- If @mention suggestions do not appear, start typing the person's display name after the @ symbol.
